Michael Veasy is the Director of Global Risk at Stanford University. He provides strategic vision and direction for the Global Risk team, which you can find more information about here. Michael is responsible for supporting the University’s global presence and facilitating the safety and security of Stanford’s international travelers. He supports and guides emergency preparedness activities, risk assessments, and crisis response, allowing Stanford travelers to research, learn, collaborate, and engage with the world with self-awareness and confidence. He also serves as a steering committee member for the Overseas Security Advisory Council. 

Prior to joining Stanford, Michael served as Senior Advisor for Diplomatic Fellowships at Howard University’s Ralph Bunche International Affairs Center. Michael brings a deep knowledge of risk mitigation and crisis response, having also served around the globe as a U.S. diplomat with the Department of State for over 23 years. During his Foreign Service career, he earned a State Department Superior Honor award and several Meritorious Honor awards. 

He has a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Morehouse College and a master’s degree in Social Change and Development from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
