Bio: 

Michael is the Assistant Vice President for Security in and Chief Information Security Officer at Stanford University. He reports into University IT and to the Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Risk Officer. He leads the Information Security Office which oversees Stanford's efforts to protect its computing and information assets and to comply with information-related laws, regulations, and policies. 

Michael joined Stanford in 2012 and ascended to the CISO role in 2013. Prior to that he led the information security program at SRI International in Menlo Park and taught as a visiting instructor at Miami University in Ohio. While a student at MIT, he founded an electronic medical records company and later served as CTO of the acquiring organization.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering, a Bachelor of Science of in Physics, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
