Kimberly (Kim) Ginn-Brown is the University Chief Audit Executive and Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Stanford University, where she leads the internal audit function and works closely with the Chief Risk Officer to align governance with Stanford strategy, safeguard university assets, and support the Stanford missions. She has a track record of guiding strategic initiatives and steering diverse risk and compliance responsibilities across the university ecosystem. She joined Stanford in September 2022 and has served in several leadership roles including acting Chief Compliance Officer and Executive Director of Risk Strategies and Enterprise Risk Management.
Prior to Stanford, Kim spent 19 years as a consultant with Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, of which 10 she was a partner. Kim was instrumental in building a Higher Education/Academic Medical Center consulting practice. She has worked closely with higher education, research institutions, academic medical centers, nonprofits, and government contractors in the areas of compliance, operations, strategy, and enterprise risk management. Much of her work focused on business-process improvements, cost reduction, and building compliant infrastructures within complex regulatory landscapes.
She is an active member of professional groups such as the Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA), Ivy Plus Chief Audit Executive forum, and an accomplished presenter. She earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting from the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, respectively, and holds the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) credential.
Outside of Stanford, Kim is an avid horsewoman and lives on a farm in Loudoun County, Virginia, with her high school sweetheart husband, horses, rescued miniature horses and donkeys, a hound, a floofy dog, and kitties. She is inspired by nature and the outdoors and serves on several related Boards. She started a nonprofit organization to transition working foxhounds to retiring as pets in homes. She loves college football (Roll Tide!) and enjoys her monthly visits to Palo Alto, and surrounding areas.
